Visa Types for Living and Working in Indonesia

This visa is intended for foreigners who have made a substantial investment in an Indonesian company. It allows for a stay of up to two years, and can be extended annually.

The Pre-investor visa is a visa for foreign investors planning to invest in Indonesia. It has a validity period of 180 days and allows investors to make preparations, look for partners and set up their business structure. To apply for this visa, a guarantor or partner is required.

This visa is intended for foreigners over 55 who want to retire in Indonesia. It allows for a stay of up to one year, and can be extended annually.

This visa is intended for foreign nationals who have been hired by an Indonesian company. It allows for a stay of up to one year, and can be extended annually.

This visa is intended for individuals who want to stay in Indonesia for up to 180 days for social or cultural purposes, such as attending conferences or taking language classes.

This visa is intended for foreign nationals who hold a valid E-VOA or VISA ON ARRIVAL, which allows them to extend their stay in Indonesia for a limited time.

The Spouse Visa is a temporary resident visa for foreigners that married an Indonesian citizen. It is valid for one year and can be extended. After the marriage has reached two years, Spouse Visa holders can apply for a permanent resident visa (Spouse KITAP).

This visa a type of limited stay permit that allows a foreign national who is dependent on someone with a valid KITAS to stay in Indonesia. It typically has a one-year validity and can be renewed as needed.

The student visa is a type of limited stay permit available for foreign nationals who are enrolled in an educational institution in Indonesia. This permit allows students to study and reside in the country for a period of one year, with the option to renew as needed.

The Second Home Visa is a non-work visa for foreigners and their families who want to live in Indonesian permanent for five or ten years. 

Foreigners can apply for the Second Home Visa by submitting the following:

  • Copy of a passport (valid for 36 months)
  • Proof of funds (2 billion rupiah placed in Indonesian-government owned banks)
  • Recent color photograph (4cm x 6cm) on a white background
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Yes. If you are staying in Indonesia for more than 30 days or traveling for a purpose other than tourism, you need to obtain a visa before departing your home country. 

The B211A visa is for those visiting Indonesia for official government activities, tourism, social and cultural activities, sports, business, commercial activities, journalistic activities or transit. 

You can stay in Indonesia for 30 days without a visa. Those who overstay are subject to high fines. If you want to stay in Indonesia longer than 30 days, you need to get a new visa according to your duties in Indonesia.

An overstay of more than 60 days is a crime according to the Indonesian law. Overstayers are subject to a find of 1 million IDR per day of delay. Furthermore, a ban on entry (deportation) and blacklist order is issued. 

If a foreigner is deported in Indonesia, he or she is forced to leave the country immediately. If the foreigner is holding a work and stay permit, then that permit becomes invalid. It’s possible the foreigner is faced with a re-entry ban.

If you have been suspected of violating immigration rules in Indonesia, local authorities have the right to confiscate your passport. At this stage, it’s important to immediately contact an immigration lawyer so they can prepare the client for an interview with immigration authorities. The interview typically happens within 24 – 48 hours from when the passport was confiscated.
